MY ART
CREATIVE
BEGINNINGS
My family knew I would pursue creative dreams ever since I was a child and boldly declared, that I wanted to own a flower/bubble shop when I grew up. I couldn’t tell you what a bubble shop is but it was one of many ideas that would pop into my head.
My imagination was so rich in fantastical details that I had to put those ideas to paper. I began to draw fervently and have yet to stop.
In fact, art brought me all the way to Chicago to attend The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where my focus was split between visual communication and traditional art practices.
I nervously walked through the doors to take a seat for my first class in college, and I saw the beginning of my journey with rose-colored lenses. . . Unfortunately, my future was less of a straight shot than expected.

STORMY
WEATHER
College was a challenging time, as I had yet to find my voice and was plagued by a deep sense of imposter syndrome. After graduating I felt even more lost. I felt defeated and the cloud of failure hung heavily over me, as I watched my peers go on to create and find jobs that were fulfilling. I turned even more inward.
I found myself looking back at that high school psychology class I took; a subject that had always fascinated me. It inspired me to take intro to psychology, abnormal psychology, and developmental psychology courses at my community college.
I had been working full time a manager at a restaurant in downtown Chicago when I decided to switch gears. The job had taught me so much about my strengths and weaknesses, and I had to use my voice to lead, but I felt that it was time to find something more soul-fulfilling.

GLASS
HALF-FULL
I had been avoiding the design world due to my past feelings of failure. After studying visual communication in college but not having found my voice yet, I felt like that ship had sailed. When I discovered Thinkful’s UX/UI course I came to a realization; that I was no longer the same person I was years ago. I had lived and learned.
Sometimes we have to iterate back to a previous notion, sometimes many times to get the painting just right. One could look at my journey as a glass-half-empty, wasted time and wasted money. But, I like to look at my journey with a glass-half-full mindset. These experiences and learned skills have all been accumulated to deepen my understanding of the world around me and allow me to create UX designs with mindfulness.
Discovering UX has changed the course of my entire life, and I mean that in the best way possible. I am so excited to continue my journey, learning and growing.
